Which Brings Me to You: Official Trailer

With a fantastic lead couple and an interesting premise, Which Brings Me to You is a sweet rom-com, if not a very memorable one.

Which Brings Me to You, directed by Peter Hutchings, is the most recent romantic comedy to join the roaster. Recent instances from the past year and the start of 2024 give the impression that rom-coms are back for good. The most recent thing that springs to me is Anyone But You. Which Brings Me to You is a rather ordinary yet highly character-driven movie with a very compelling main couple.

Which Brings Me to You begins at a wedding, when Jane (Lucy Hale) and Will (Nate Wolfe) first cross paths, much like many great love comedies. The two hit it off right away and, following a disastrous attempt at hooking up in the coatroom, end up spending the rest of the day together. Over the course of the following day, Jane and Will become more candid with one another, reliving old moments and confessing about their past relationships and heartbreaks.  After all they have been through, will these two romantic burnouts find love in the end?

Lucy Hale as Jane in the romantic comedy Which Brings Me to You, a DECAL release

Which Brings Me to You is a pleasant movie because of Lucy Hale and Natt Wolfe. Their chemistry not only works wonderfully on screen, giving the impression that they could have fallen in love in less than a day, but they also do a great job of blending the film's comedic elements with its more emotional moments. Seeing a pair on television that is so well-balanced in their performance is a true delight: Hale and Wolfe complement one another when it comes to handling more emotional subjects and they also bounce off each other in the humorous moments with well-timed jokes.

Especially successful is the comedy. Although Which Brings Me to You begins slowly—a scene that only introduces us to the two major characters is far too long—it gets off to a good start by establishing a humorous tone right away. Wolfe's superb comedic timing makes the delivery of the jokes successful even though they aren't very memorable. The film's final act is unquestionably its best writing-wise since it gives us a clearer understanding of the individuals. Additionally, because several sequences hint to a major plot aspect, the movie seems to be coming full circle at some time.

Which Brings Me to You: Film Review

Which Brings Me to You is a straightforward and predictable plot, but it works in the end because the viewer experiences the character's emotions together with her, much like when they travel by car from one place to another. They reveal new details about themselves to us as they delve further into their past. Above all, Jane and Will control their tale and the way it is told; as they become more transparent, they decide which stories to tell one another. For instance, the audience will not necessarily learn about their previous relationships in a chronological sequence, but rather in the order that feels most natural to them at that particular moment in the film. This feels incredibly genuine and true to how we interact in real life as well.

Which Brings Me to You is an intriguing structure that lets the audience see their memories as the major characters describe them to them. The characters' attire, settings, and attitudes clearly change as they progress through each stage of life, therefore each flashback sequence is likewise incredibly precise and realistic. By the end, though, it becomes overly simplistic and somewhat monotonous as Jane and Will alternate in their flashback recounting of the past. We are aware of how each of these tales will unavoidably conclude, The movie doesn't give the viewer enough time to develop an attachment to any of the numerous love interests who comprise the stories of the major characters, making it difficult for them to really relate to the failed loves they are discussing from the past.

Which Brings Me to You is a charming contribution to the genre, showing its viewers that one does not have to be flawless to be loved and that one should not give up on love just because one or more of their relationships have failed. In the case of our characters, this has befell more than as soon as. Fans of romantic comedies will revel in the movie as it adheres to several well-known cliches inside the genre, however in the end it is not a completely memorable one.

Which Brings Me to You will be released in US theaters on January 19, 2024.
